Bali Here We Come!

I haven't updated this in awhile as I've been in the groove of getting my school work done before I leave tomorrow to Bali. I have 5 papers to turn in before I leave and I've done 4 of them thus far! Yesterday me the the boyz went shopping and I picked up a new GoPro mount for my board, reef booties, rash guard, and crazy OZ sun-paste! Around two weeks ago while surfing in Byron I had a bad wipe-out and landed right on the camera, snapping off the plate (little safety lease and pad saved my GoPro from sinking to the bottom of the ocean. Also, last week I was able to go kiting right in front of my place. It was pretty surreal looking at the skyline as I cruised back and forth. I was the only kiter out which made things a little hairy but all went well. I'm going to keep this short as I need to get back to my work before I depart in the morning. Chris will meet me in Bali in about 8 days and two of mt new friends from Surfers will also be meeting me there later in the trip.

Off the Grid: Nicaragua

Surfing with Chris and Pat!  It’s been awhile since I last updated this. We made it to Nicaragua after a lonnnggg day of travel. I was pretty sick when we left on our journey to Nicaragua. I think it was because of the “red tide” because it was my sinuses that were bothering me. We took the 6am bus out of Santa Teresa and got to the ferry around 8. Crossed the Nicoya Peninsula by 10:30 and got back on the bus until we got to Barancas which was only 30 minutes away. We didn’t know if we were going to take local “Tica” busses to the border or a direct. Just our luck there was a direct “Trans-Nica” bus waiting in Barancas. It was expensive but it was super cushy with AC and a TV playing movies in Spanish. We got to the border after a few hours and crossed without much difficulty. I had heard rumors that the border wait can exceed 6 hours during the Semana de Santa holiday but there was hardly anybody there. Mong Kok and Beyond!

We immediately hit the ground running! We arrived early and got settled. We then made our way to the infamous subway system. We knew we would be using it a lot so we bought "Octopus" cards which allow you to tap into the gates instead of buying individual tickets. We would soon find out that the Octopus cards got you access to everything (subways, busses, trollies, ferries, and even 711s). We made our way to Victoria Peaks and got in a very very long line for the Tram. We didn't last long in line and decided to hike to the top. Little did we know that it's a couple miles to get to the top and thousands of feet of elevation gain. After 10 minutes of hiking we hailed a taxi and got to the top in 15 minutes. Punto San Carlos, Baja, Mexico!!! Chasing a Scattered SW and NW Swell!

San Carlos with the Boyz! Looking pretty haggard after not showering for a few days! Things weren’t looking so hot for me going into the trip. I was very sick and had flu-like symptoms the night before departure of our long and very adventurous adventure. Because I was so sick I missed packed some pretty crucial things for living in the desert. San Carlos is 280 miles into Baja from the border, the last 40 miles being on a wash-board dirt road. You are literally in the middle of nowhere. There are ZERO amenities in San Carlos; no running water, no electricity, no stores, no people, NADA except for big waves and high winds! This means you have to bring everything. The main thing I forgot was my sweatshirt but Christopher being Christopher packed two of everything and had an extra, what a guy!
